Drug discovery and development are neither easy nor cheap process. As a small to medium-sized player in the Korean pharmaceutical industry, Daehwa realizes the limits of its resources to research and develop new drugs. However, Daehwa also recognizes that originative research and development is critical in the rapidly evolving landscape of the pharmaceutical industry. That's why Daehwa strives to develop innovative in collaboration with other organizations, including many of the leading academic and scientific institutions in Korea.
Among Daehwa's innovative products currently in development, the most promising is DHP107. DHP107 is an effective oral paclitaxel formulation developed jointly by Daehwa and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) with support from the National Research Program of the Korean government. DHP107 has shown remarkable results in various animal studies designed to assess the pharmacokinetics, toxicity, and anticancer effects of this drug. Currently, Daehwa is in the process of finalizing preclinical activities and intends to file an IND application in late 2006.
Daehwa is also developing a drug known as DHP208, which is another form of reformulated paclitaxel for liver cancer patients. DHP208 is intended for localized delivery of the anticancer drug to liver tumors by transcatheter arterial chemoembolizaiton (TACE). The company has received a grant from the Korean Ministry of Health and is working in collaboration with the KIST and the Medical College of Seoul National University to develop DHP208.
In addition to the products described above, Daehwa is pursuing research to develop new formulations of drugs and new synthesis methods that will offer improved quality and affordability.
